Byrd-Watson is a local business. We operate two stores in Mount Vernon, with specialized service for the surrounding Southern Illinois region. We’re not a mega-corporation or impersonal chain of stores, but a family-owned small business started by one husband and wife team – Ed and Brenda Breeze.

Ed is the father of Byrd-Watson. He started the business in the 1970s as a hometown drug store in Times Square Mall with his wife, Brenda, to compassionately take care of the community. As a pharmacist, Ed knew the importance of medical treatments for the families of Southern Illinois. As a father himself, he knew the value of running his store to support schools, clubs, churches, and the community. Brenda’s hard work and kindness added a personal touch for the customers of Byrd-Watson as she and her husband contributed to the health of the community.

Today, Byrd-Watson is run by another dad, Ed’s son Adam. Adam and his wife Melynda, who work together to manage both Mount Vernon locations, have three children of their own who they are teaching the values of a family-operated business – compassionate care, friendly service, and community loyalty. Far from the greed and hostility of a major corporation, we’re here to support, give back, and provide exceptional care.

This Father’s Day, we want to thank the fathers of Byrd-Watson for getting us to where we are today and seeing us into the exciting future. Happy Father’s Day!
